*symbols- holden's red hat mean that when holden wears it he wants to be differenr then everyone else -duck pond shows us that there is still a child-like side to holden *Motif- lonliness- holden is alone for most of the book and he wants companionshi0p yet he tends to drive people away *theme- the painfullness of growing up- holden was kind of forced to grow up with him being sent away to different schools but he doesn't want to grow up because of the phoniness of adults. * another symbol you should add is the catcher in the rye- holden feels the need to save pheobe and other kids from growing up but in the end he doesn't feel that need anymore and realizes that it's impossible to stay young forever ****** hope this helps!
