In Great Expectations, how does Dickens develop the character Pip? What literary elements does he use ...?

I'm writing a essay on Great Expectations. I need help coming up with ideas for this prompt: Charles Dickens develops Pip’s character in a variety of ways that support his overall message. He uses symbols, contrasts, coincidence and motif throughout the novel. Choose one symbol, contrast, coincidence or motif. Tie this concept to how Dickens develops Pip’s character and prove how it enhances Dickens’ overall theme in Great Expectations.
