What is a good way to represent 'The Count of Monte Cristo' through art?

I need to make a drawing for the Count of Monte Cristo, but I can't seem to think of anything. I was going to draw a hand pouring a red elixir but I don't know what else to add on to that. It has to have some theme, motif, or symbol in it.
