What are the best drumsticks to purchase?

My girlfriend loves playing the drums, so I would love to get her a new pair of sticks for her to play with whether practicing or playing at gigs (we went to a music shop and she kind of gazed sadly at their collection that she couldn't afford :/). I'd like to know which companies make the best drum sticks because I really know nothing about them. Is there anything else I should know about purchasing drum sticks as well? Thanks!
