Does anyone else miss mirroring and symbolism?

Often times when I am reading fiction books I completely miss the symbolism, mirroring, motifs, the little literary devices the author uses. Usually after I am searching on the internet on books I go "ohhhh. I totally missed that!" in the storyline. does that happen to anyone else?
