I have a 64bit ready computer running 32bit windows 7. I have the software to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit.?

I tried to do it the other day but I got hung up. It started telling me stuff about partitions? I stopped the application. What is my next step. I want to do this because when upgraded to 64 bit I can upgrade my RAM to 8 gigs.
